Luxury Hotel
It is the hottest hotel property in Florence, the mainstay of stylish traveler and occasional celebrity that know the pedigree of its Rocco Forte owners well enough to overlook competition like JK Place or Four Seasons. It's location on Piazza della Repubblica close to Duomo and Ponte Vecchio make it ideal for anyone who's never been to Florence and close to antique shops and private galleries for seasoned visitors on their umpteenth visit.

Resorted in 2000 by the hotel chain who employed the owner's sister Olga Polizzi to handle the interior design, the result is a reserved double-door entryway with creamy color palette accentuated by zebra-pattern tables, muted sofas and ornate sculptures that tell of the properties storied past as Florence's first real luxury hotel.

The hotel is more old world glam than its sister-property in Rome, home to upscale L'Incontro Bar and Restaurant with its lively terrace and more reserved interiors with club chairs that resembled hip-height ghosts draped in exquisite fabrics for dining on mint-scented lamb chops, risotto with spring peas and linguine with clams. To work it off, an in-house spa and gym are smaller than we expected but efficient in their quality and array of machines.
The Room
As large as it looks, Hotel Savoy is home to 88 guest rooms and 14 suites arranged along traditional long corridors with attractive collection of artwork and contemporary lounge furnishings. The smallest of the rooms is a classic single or double with muted color palette with ebonized-wood desk, oversize circular mirror and crisp Armani-inspired pendant light next to beds tossed with bold striped pillows and linen sheets. Opulent bathrooms feature chocolate or mosaic marble detailing with artful prints and silver-trimmed mirrors and sconces but with branded toiletries that aren’t our favorite scent. Larger studio rooms are almost double in size with private lounge arrangement of spa and club chairs with evolved design but substantially smaller than the one-bedroom suites that come with walk-out balconies with views of the Abundance statue by Donatello in Piazza della Repubblica or steam room in the more heavily upgraded bathroom.
